Overview
NIT Srinagar was established in 1960 as one of the eighteen Regional Engineering Colleges set up during the Second Five Year Plan. It is among the oldest NITs in northern India and now runs undergraduate, masters and doctoral programmes. The institute is a fully residential campus on the banks of the famous Dal Lake, with the Hazratbal Shrine on the other side of the campus. Its engineering departments include civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and communication, computer science, chemical, metallurgical and information technology.
