Overview

NIT Raipur was established in 1956 as the Government Engineering College, Raipur, with its foundation laid by India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and inaugurated by the first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. It became a National Institute of Technology in 2005 and an Institution of National Importance thereafter. It began with just Metallurgical and Mining Engineering and has grown into a full-fledged institute offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across disciplines. The campus is located in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.
