Overview

VNIT Nagpur was established in 1960 as the Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, sponsored by the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, by amalgamating the state government engineering college that had functioned at Nagpur since 1956. In 1962 it was named after the engineer-statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya. It received deemed university status in June 2002 and became an Institution of National Importance in 2007. The institute sits on a 214-acre campus on South Ambazari Road in Nagpur.
