Overview

NIT Durgapur was established in 1960 as the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, one of the first such colleges in the country, as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal. It began with four branches: Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Electrical Engineering. It received deemed university status in July 2003 and was declared an Institution of National Importance in 2007. The institute is located in Durgapur, in the industrial heartland of West Bengal, and offers nine B.Tech and sixteen M.Tech programmes along with MCA, MBA, M.Sc and PhD.
