The Manipal Academy of Higher Education, formerly Manipal University, was founded in 1953 in Manipal, Karnataka, beginning with Kasturba Medical College and the Manipal Institute of Technology. It is a private deemed-to-be university granted Institution of Eminence status by the Government of India.
