
Overview
IIT Madras was inaugurated in July 1959 with West German technical assistance and was declared an Institute of National Importance in 1961. Its large forested campus in South Chennai is also a protected national park. The institute offers programmes from B.Tech and BS to M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, MS and PhD.

B.Tech admission is through JEE Advanced, with seats allotted through JoSAA; the institute also runs SEA and FACE admission channels for some categories.
