Candidates eyeing a medical seat in Uttarakhand have less than a day left. Registration, fee payment and choice filling for the NEET UG 2026 stray vacancy round close at 5 PM on October 21, the last round of the state’s counselling for this year.
Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, which conducts the state’s medical counselling, released the schedule on October 20. The stray round exists to fill the seats still empty after three rounds of counselling: 145 in total, split between MBBS and BDS.
How many seats, and where
Of the 116 vacant MBBS seats, only nine are in government colleges. The other 107 are in private medical colleges. All 29 BDS seats are in private dental colleges. For most candidates, then, this round is mainly a route into private colleges; the government-college seats are a handful.
The stray round schedule
| Counselling event | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration, fee payment and choice filling | October 21, 2026, by 5 PM |
| Seat allotment | October 22, 2026 |
| Last date to complete admission | October 26, 2026 |
The registration fee is Rs. 4,500. Every candidate must register afresh and fill college and course choices again. Choices submitted in the earlier rounds stand cancelled and will not be carried over.
Who can apply
Candidates who went through the first three rounds without securing a seat can take part, and eligible candidates entering the process for the first time can also apply. Two groups are out: anyone who has already joined a college, and anyone who was allotted a seat in round 3 but did not take admission within the stipulated time.
As in the earlier rounds, 85% of the state quota seats are reserved for candidates holding a Uttarakhand domicile. Candidates from outside the state can apply only for management quota seats in private colleges. The university has also laid down eligibility conditions and penalties for candidates who fail to join after allotment, so read the notice before paying the fee.
What to do now
Register on the HNBUMU official website before 5 PM on October 21, pay the registration fee, and lock in your choices the same evening. Keep the documents for admission ready now rather than after the allotment: the admission documents checklist covers the standard set colleges ask for at reporting time. Those allotted a seat on October 22 have until October 26 to complete the admission formalities at the college.
