Out of 13,343 candidates who sat the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, 2,526 have reached the final stage. The Union Public Service Commission declared the written result on November 5, and the shortlisted candidates will now appear for the Personality Test, the interview round that carries 275 marks.
About one in five candidates who wrote the Mains made the cut. The written examination was held from August 21 to 30, 2026. The Personality Test counts alongside the Mains marks in the final merit list, so the interview is where the remaining places are decided.
What the result list shows, and what it does not
The result is published as two PDFs on the Commission’s website, one arranged by roll number and the other by name. The list is not a ranking. The serial numbers in it are not All India Ranks, and the Commission has not published marks or cut-off scores. Marksheets will be uploaded within 15 days of the final result, after the interviews are over.
Candidature is provisional for now. The Commission has said it will verify eligibility and documents before the final selection, so shortlisted candidates should keep their original certificates ready for the interview. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers candidates are commonly asked to carry.
The form every shortlisted candidate must submit
Before the interviews, every shortlisted candidate has one more form to finish. The online application form window opens on November 11 and closes at 6 pm on November 25, 2026, on the UPSC online portal.
Candidates must log in, check the details, update them where needed, and press final submit. The step applies even to candidates who have nothing to change. The result notice says candidates with no information to update must still log in and finally submit after verifying the details, failing which no e-summon letter will be issued. The e-summon letter is the interview call, and the Commission posts it only on its websites. No paper letters go out.
Interview: what is known so far
The Personality Tests will be held at the UPSC office at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi. The Commission has not announced the interview dates yet. It has said the schedule and the e-summon letters will come in due course on upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in.
The interview carries 275 marks. It is the last stage of the Civil Services Examination, which recruits for the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, the Indian Police Service and other central services.
