The National Testing Agency has opened the application window for the UGC NET December 2026 session. Candidates can apply online from October 8 to October 28, 2026 (11:50 PM).
What the exam is for
UGC NET decides eligibility for three things: the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor posts, and PhD admissions across Indian universities and colleges. The NTA runs it for the University Grants Commission. It has been a computer-based test since December 2018.
Key dates
- Application window: October 8 – October 28, 2026 (till 11:50 PM)
- Exam dates: December 14 – December 19, 2026
Before you apply
Read the information bulletin first, confirm the eligibility criteria for your subject, and check the subject-wise schedule. Forms filed in the last few hours often run into server congestion. Applying early avoids that scramble.
The December session is one of two UGC NET rounds each year. For PhD aspirants, a NET score also feeds into several university admissions, including JNU’s current PhD intake.
