Design aspirants have one day left to register for the 2027 design entrance exams without paying extra. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay closes regular registration for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) and the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) on October 31, 2026.

October 31 is not the end of the road. Candidates who miss it can still apply from November 1 to November 6, 2026, by paying an additional late fee of Rs 500. The late window shuts at 5 pm on November 6, after which the portals close.

Both exams are held on January 17, 2027. UCEED runs from 9 am to 12 noon. Admit cards are scheduled for release on January 1, 2027.

What the two exams are for

UCEED is the gateway to Bachelor of Design (BDes) programmes at participating institutes, including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. CEED is for postgraduate design admission, covering Master of Design (MDes) and some PhD programmes at participating institutes.

UCEED and CEED have separate application forms and separate official websites, even though IIT Bombay conducts both exams and the dates are the same.

Who can apply

For UCEED, students who passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam in 2026, or who are appearing for it in 2027, can apply. Candidates from science, commerce, arts and humanities streams are all eligible. Age rules apply: Open, EWS and OBC-NCL candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2002, while the cut-off is October 1, 1997 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. UCEED allows a maximum of two attempts, and the two attempts must be in consecutive years.

CEED has a different bar. Applicants need a degree, diploma or postgraduate degree programme of at least three years after Class 12, or must be appearing for the final examination of such a programme by July 2027. Candidates who passed the five-year Government Diploma in Art after Class 10 by July 2027 are also eligible. There is no age limit for CEED, but qualifying in the exam does not by itself guarantee admission, since institutes set their own admission criteria.

Fees and how to apply

For Indian nationals, the regular fee is Rs 2,000 for female candidates across all categories and for SC, ST and PwD candidates. All other candidates pay Rs 4,000. The Rs 500 late fee is added to these amounts for applications made after October 31. Bank or processing charges are extra, and the fee is non-refundable.

UCEED applications go through the official UCEED portal, and CEED applications through the official CEED portal. The process starts with registration using a mobile number and email ID, followed by the application form, document uploads and online fee payment. Keep the confirmation page after submitting, since it is the proof that the application went through. Our admission documents checklist covers the paperwork students usually need ready before filling any entrance form.

What to check before paying

The fee is non-refundable, so it is worth reading the information brochure on the official portal before submitting. Check the eligibility rules for your category and the document specifications for photographs and signatures, since a rejected photograph is a common cause of last-minute trouble.
