Tamil Nadu’s postgraduate medical aspirants have four days to act. The Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Chennai, has released the round 1 schedule for NEET PG 2026 state quota counselling, and the registration window opens on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Registration, fee payment and choice filling all run together in this round. The portal opens at 12:01 pm on October 31 and closes at 5 pm on November 3. Candidates register on the official Selection Committee portal, where the schedule for PG degree (MD and MS) and diploma admissions for the 2026-27 session has been published.

Who can register in round 1

Only candidates named on the Tamil Nadu NEET PG state merit list can take part. The government quota window covers general ranks 1 to 7,952, with NEET PG marks from 705.64 down to 226. The management quota window covers general ranks 1 to 3,643, with marks from 625 down to 226.

This follows the provisional rank list published on October 29, which set the merit order for the state quota. A candidate who is not on that list cannot register in this round, whatever their NEET PG score. The counselling covers government medical colleges and government quota seats in self-financing colleges, all affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

Candidates pay a non-refundable counselling processing fee of Rs 1,000 during registration. Choices filled in this window decide allotment, so the order of preferences matters as much as the rank itself. An unlocked choice list gets locked automatically when the window closes, but leaving it to the system is a poor way to decide where the next three years will be spent.

What happens after November 3

The Selection Committee will process seat allotments on November 4 and publish the round 1 result on November 5. Candidates who get a seat can download the provisional allotment order from November 5 until 3 pm on November 10. The last date to join the allotted college is November 10 at 5 pm.

That joining deadline is tight, and it leaves no room for a slow document check. Candidates should keep the NEET PG scorecard, MBBS degree certificate, medical registration certificate and category certificate ready before the result comes out. Our admission documents checklist covers the full set in one place, including the nativity and community certificates Tamil Nadu asks for.

One practical point: the result, the allotment order and the joining deadline all sit within five days of each other. A candidate travelling to join a college in another district should plan the trip as soon as the allotment order is in hand, not after reading it twice.
