The waiting is over for Tamil Nadu’s medical aspirants. The Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME), Chennai, published the Round 3 seat allotment result for NEET UG 2026 counselling today, October 12. Candidates can now download their provisional allotment orders from the official portal and must report to their allotted colleges by 5 PM on October 15.

This round covers MBBS and BDS seats across the state’s government medical and dental colleges and participating self-financing institutions. Allotments run through two quotas: the 92.5 per cent state quota and the 7.5 per cent special reservation for Tamil Nadu government school students.

A revised schedule with one extra day

The result date itself did not move, but the deadlines around it did. The DME announced a revised schedule after receiving representations from candidates, pushing the joining deadline back by a day.

Under the revised timeline, choice filling and locking closed at 5 PM on October 9, seat allotment processing ran on October 10 and 11, and the result is out today. Provisional allotment orders can be downloaded from October 12 until 12 noon on October 15, and the last date to join the allotted institution is 5 PM on October 15, 2026.

The earlier schedule had set October 14 as the final joining date. Candidates who mapped their travel plans to that date now get an extra 24 hours. Check the notifications page on tnmedicalselection.net rather than relying on older schedule screenshots.

What to do right now

If you participated in Round 3, start with the official portal. Log in with your credentials, download the provisional allotment order and read it carefully for the college, course and category you have been allotted. Keep a printed copy ready; colleges ask for it at the reporting desk.

Reporting means physical verification of original documents, payment of the prescribed fees and completion of admission formalities at the allotted college. Carry your NEET UG scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 marksheets, community certificate where applicable, and the documents our admission documents checklist lists for Indian admissions. Double-check every name and date against your certificates before you travel; corrections at the desk cost time you may not have.

Do not leave this for the last afternoon. October 15 is a hard stop, and a seat not joined by the deadline goes back to the vacant pool.

Who was in the fray this round

Round 3 was the third phase of Tamil Nadu’s state quota counselling, open to NEET UG 2026 qualified candidates who registered on the DME portal. Registrations ran from September 28 to September 30, followed by choice filling from October 1 to October 9.

Candidates who had already joined a seat through the All India Quota up to Round 3 were excluded from the processing, in line with the national rule against holding two seats at once.

Medical education in the state runs through The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, which affiliates the government and private colleges taking students through this counselling. Self-financing colleges, including Sri Ramachandra Medical College and similar institutions, admit part of their intake through the state quota as well.

After October 15

Once reporting closes, the state will tally the seats that remain vacant and move to the next stage of counselling. Historically that is the stray vacancy round, though the DME has not announced its schedule yet. Keep your documents ready and watch tnmedicalselection.net for the notice.

If you did not get a seat this round, do not deregister in frustration. The stray round is short and fills whatever is left, and the AIQ stray round run by MCC is also underway this week, closing registration on October 14.
