Tamil Nadu’s postgraduate medical aspirants have until 5 pm on November 3 to lock their college choices. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) opened round 1 registration, payment and choice filling for NEET PG 2026 at 12:01 pm on October 31, and the window shuts on Tuesday. The round 1 result follows on November 5.
The counselling covers PG degree and diploma seats in government medical colleges, government quota seats in self-financing colleges, and management, minority and NRI quota seats. The specified Christian Medical College Vellore quota seats are included as well. All state quota seats fall under The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, which affiliates the state’s medical colleges.
More than 12,000 doctors applied for the state counselling. The rank lists published on October 29 carried 7,952 candidates in the government quota and 3,643 in the management quota. Round 1 calls government quota general ranks 1 to 7,952 and management quota general ranks 1 to 3,643. Government quota marks in the called range run from 705.64 down to 226, and management quota marks from 625 down to 226.
What happens after the window closes
Seat allotment processing takes place on November 4. The Selection Committee publishes the round 1 result on November 5, and candidates can download their provisional allotment order between November 5 and November 10. Joining closes at 5 pm on November 10.
Candidates can edit their preferences as many times as they like before locking. Choices left unlocked when the window closes are locked automatically by the system, so a candidate who never presses lock still gets considered on the last saved order. That makes the order itself the decision that matters, not the act of locking.
Registration carries a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000 for each quota. Candidates should keep the payment receipt and the locked choice list, since both are asked for during reporting. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers most counselling portals ask for at this stage, from the MBBS degree and registration certificate to category certificates where applicable.
A short runway to the result
The schedule leaves little slack. NEET PG 2026 was held on August 30 and results came out on September 24, and the state process moved from rank lists on October 29 to choice filling within two days. Candidates who miss the November 3 deadline lose this round entirely and wait for the next one, whenever the committee announces it.
Anyone still unsure about a preference should check the seat matrix on the official Selection Committee portal before the window closes, rather than relying on forwarded lists that may carry an older schedule. The portal also carries the prospectus, the rank lists and any addendum the committee issues.
