If you qualified NEET PG 2026 and want a postgraduate medical seat in Tamil Nadu, October 16 could be your final day to register. Collegedunia reported on October 15, citing a notice from the Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), that the online registration deadline has been extended by one day to 11:59 PM on October 16, 2026.

No other major outlet had confirmed the extension at the time of writing, and the official notice does not appear on the DMER notice board yet. The safest move is to log in to the official TN medical selection portal and check whether the application window is still open before the day ends.

The counselling covers MD, MS and PG diploma seats in government medical colleges, plus government-quota seats in self-financing medical colleges, all affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University. DNB broad-speciality post-MBBS seats for service candidates are included as well. Registration opened on October 9, 2026, and the notified closing time was October 15 at 5 PM.

How to register

The application runs fully online. Keep scanned copies of your documents ready, because uploads happen inside the form itself. Payment is accepted through net banking, debit card, credit card and UPI.

The portal’s application flow is straightforward: visit tnmedicalselection.net, open the NEET PG 2026 counselling registration link, register with a valid email ID and mobile number, fill in your personal and academic details, upload the scanned documents, pay the applicable fee, and submit. Download the confirmation page after submitting and keep it with your records.

Fee and eligibility

There is a non-refundable registration charge of Rs 1,000 for every applicant. On top of that, the application fee is Rs 3,000 for the state quota covering government and self-financing college seats, and Rs 5,000 for the management quota. SC and ST candidates are exempt from the government seat fee.

Only candidates who qualified NEET PG 2026 can apply. The minimum qualifying scores are 262 marks (50th percentile) for general and EWS candidates, 226 marks (40th percentile) for SC, ST and OBC candidates, and 244 marks (45th percentile) for general PwD candidates. Applicants must be Tamil Nadu domicile holders or must have completed MBBS from a Tamil Nadu college recognised by the National Medical Commission. Diploma course aspirants must finish their coursework before counselling begins, and every candidate must complete the Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship. The exact internship cut-off date sits in the official prospectus.

The usual document set applies: NEET PG 2026 admit card and scorecard, MBBS degree certificate and mark sheets, internship completion certificate, Tamil Nadu nativity or domicile certificate, medical council registration, class 10 certificate as age proof, and a category certificate where applicable. The admission documents checklist covers the paperwork colleges generally ask for at the reporting stage.

What comes next

The merit list, choice filling window and Round 1 seat allotment schedule are yet to be announced by DMER. Tamil Nadu runs its PG counselling in four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, a mop-up round and a stray vacancy round. Candidates register once and stay eligible for all four rounds, and seat allotment follows merit, filled choices and category reservation rules.

Separately, the national All India Quota counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee has its own timeline. Registration for NEET PG Round 1 on mcc.nic.in runs from October 12 to October 21, choice filling and locking from October 13 to October 22, and the seat allotment result is due on October 24. Candidates applying under both quotas should track the two portals independently.
