If you have a paper on October 23 under Savitribai Phule Pune University, you will not be writing it.
The university has postponed every examination scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026. The reason is polling day: Maharashtra votes that day for five Legislative Council seats in the teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies, and SPPU said it took the decision to save students and exam staff trouble on polling day.
The postponement came through a notice from the university’s Board of Examinations and Evaluation issued on October 19. It follows a notification from the Maharashtra State Election Commission dated September 29, which set the polling schedule for the five constituencies. The board moved all of the day’s papers off the polling date on the back of that schedule.
Not the only shuffle in SPPU’s exam calendar
October 23 is not the first date SPPU has had to change this season. The university also moved the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2026 to October 25 after postponing it three times, citing clashes with UPSC and other competitive examination schedules and travel difficulties for candidates, according to the Times of India. That exam, which SPPU conducts, was originally scheduled for July 6.
New dates will come in a separate circular
Dr Rajendra Talware, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, said the revised examination dates will be announced in a separate circular. The board has also directed all affiliated colleges to note the change and inform their students at the earliest.
Students should not treat any date as final until that circular is issued. If a forwarded message or a college notice claims to know the rescheduled date, cross-check it against the university’s own announcement before believing it.
What the polls are about
October 23 is polling day for five seats in the teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
What students should do now
There is no action to take yet beyond watching for the rescheduling circular. The official SPPU website will carry the notice when it is issued, and affiliated colleges have been told to pass the information on promptly. Students with papers around the postponed date should keep preparing and leave their schedule open until the revised dates are confirmed.
