If you are still waiting for an agriculture seat in Telangana, the next two days matter. Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTAU) is holding the third phase of counselling for the seats still open in two undergraduate programmes, on October 14 and 15.
The programmes are BSc (Hons) Agriculture and BTech Food Technology, for the 2026-27 academic year. The counselling fills the seats that remained vacant after the earlier rounds.
When and where
Counselling takes place on October 14 and 15 at the university auditorium on the Rajendranagar campus. Candidates under the special quota have a separate day: October 16, for the remaining seats in the same two programmes.
Before you travel, check the official notification on the official PJTAU website. The university may issue updates, and the notification is the final word on reporting time, eligibility and documents.
The two programmes
BSc (Hons) Agriculture is the standard undergraduate degree for students who want to work in crop production, farm management and allied agricultural fields.
BTech Food Technology sits on the processing side of agriculture. It covers food processing, quality and safety, packaging and product development, and it leads into roles in food manufacturing and quality control. Students who like the science behind how food is made, stored and tested tend to find this course a better fit than a general agriculture degree.
If you are choosing between the two, weigh what you want to do after graduation rather than which one sounds more familiar. Our guide on how to choose a university in India sets out how to compare courses, fees and career paths before you commit to a seat.
What to do before you go
First, read the official notification in full. It lists who is eligible for this phase, what to carry and how the seat allotment works. Do not rely on second-hand summaries for those details.
Second, get your paperwork in order. Carry the documents the notification asks for, in original, along with photocopies. Our admission documents checklist covers the paperwork colleges usually ask for, so you can tick items off before you leave home.
Third, reach the venue early. Counselling days run on a fixed order, and a late arrival can cost you a seat even when your turn is still open. Keep your phone charged and keep the notification saved offline, in case the network at the venue is patchy.
Why a third phase happens
Seats stay vacant for ordinary reasons. Some candidates who were allotted seats in earlier rounds do not join. Some withdraw after taking a seat elsewhere. Each round after that gives the next set of eligible candidates a chance at the seats left behind.
That is also why the special-quota day is separate. Candidates under the special quota are counselled on October 16, after the general third phase on October 14 and 15, so the two pools do not get mixed up.
If you attend, confirm the seat details before you accept. Ask what the fees are, when classes begin and what the reporting formalities involve. A seat that looks good on paper still needs to work for your budget and your travel plans.
