At 10 am today, the window that decides Odisha’s first round of postgraduate medical admissions opens. Candidates in Odisha NEET PG 2026 Round 1 counselling can start filling and locking their college and course preferences on the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Odisha portal. The window closes at 11:55 pm on November 3.

This round covers MD, MS and diploma seats in the state’s medical colleges. Only candidates on the state merit list can take part, and only the preferences they submit in this window count for the Round 1 allotment.

Check the merit list and seat matrix first

DMET published the revised provisional merit list and the seat matrix on October 30 at 4 pm. Those two documents should be open before any preference is entered. The merit list shows where a candidate stands in the state process. The seat matrix shows which seats are actually available in each college and course.

Reading the two together matters, because a preference for a seat that is not in the matrix cannot lead to an allotment, however high it sits on the list.

Fill in order, then lock

Preferences go in on the official DMET Odisha portal, in the PG Medical Counselling 2026 section. Candidates log in, select colleges and courses, and arrange them in the order they would accept them. That order is what the allotment follows, so the first preference should be the seat a candidate wants most, not the one that looks safest.

Locking is a separate step, and it is the step that makes the preferences final. A set of choices that is filled in but never locked does not count. Candidates should lock well before the November 3 deadline, then take a printout or screenshot of the locked choices for their own records. If the portal allows changes before locking, use that time to recheck the order rather than rushing the last entry on the final evening.

Candidates still weighing how to rank colleges can work through how to choose a university in India before they lock. The guide covers the trade-offs worth weighing, such as course strength against location, when two options look close on paper.

What happens after November 3

The Round 1 allotment-cum-admission letter will be available for download on November 5. Allotted candidates must then report for provisional admission on November 6 and 7, between 10 am and 5 pm. Reporting means presenting original documents and the admission fee receipt at the allotted institute, so those papers should be ready before the allotment comes out rather than assembled after it.

Our admission documents checklist lists the originals candidates are usually asked for at reporting. Checking that list against the documents in hand now means the November 6 and 7 window can go to travel and verification.

Candidates who do not get a seat in Round 1 should watch the DMET portal for the next rounds of the state schedule. Seats left vacant after reporting move to later rounds, and the portal remains the only place where the revised dates and notices for those rounds are published.
