More than 3,300 students will walk out of NITTE (Deemed to be University) with degrees in hand this week. The Mangaluru-based university announced on November 2 that its 16th annual convocation will confer degrees on 3,325 graduands across three ceremonies on November 6 and 7.

Vice-Chancellor M. S. Moodithaya shared the details at a press meet in Mangaluru. The first ceremony takes place on November 6 at 10 am at the University Ground in Deralakatte, on the Mangaluru campus. Vivek Lal, Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will deliver the convocation address there.

The action then shifts to the Nitte campus on November 7. The morning ceremony at 10 am, held at the newly built amphitheatre of the Nitte Off-Campus Centre, is for undergraduate graduands of Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology (NMAMIT). Prahlada Rama Rao, Pro-Chancellor of S-VYASA (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, will be the chief guest. A third ceremony follows the same afternoon at 4 pm for PhD scholars, postgraduate graduands of NMAMIT and the Justice K. S. Hegde Institute of Management, and undergraduate graduands of Dr. Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial First Grade College and the Nitte Institute of Professional Education. Chancellor Vishal Hegde will preside over all three ceremonies.

Who is graduating

Of the 3,325 graduands, 1,455 are from the Mangaluru campus and 1,870 from the Nitte campus. The largest single group is engineering: 1,148 BTech graduands. Medicine accounts for 347, pharmacy for 220, MCA for 181, MBA for 180 and biological sciences for 140, with the rest spread across other undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

The degrees span medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, allied health sciences, mass communication and journalism, biological sciences, architecture, speech and hearing, hospitality management, engineering and technology, computer applications, business administration, commerce and management. Alongside the degrees, the university will present 57 gold medals, 39 institutional and 18 endowment, plus 159 merit certificates to its top performers.

What the university said about its next steps

At the same press meet, the university said it plans to strengthen its work in robotics and artificial intelligence, and is exploring opportunities in the semiconductor industry. For a deemed university that began in 2008 and now runs programmes across health sciences, engineering, management and communication, the convocation numbers show how far its intake has grown: last year’s 15th convocation had 1,999 graduates, against 3,325 this year.

Students and parents planning to attend can check the schedule and venue details on the official Nitte University website. Those still deciding where to apply next year can work through the admission documents checklist to see the papers most university portals ask for at the application stage.
