PhD holders looking for a teaching post have three live windows at the moment. The National Institute of Technology Warangal is hiring 34 faculty members, 30 of them at assistant professor level, with applications closing November 30. Alongside that, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is running a special recruitment drive for assistant professors that closes October 31, and IISER Mohali has opened 21 assistant professor posts with a November 20 deadline.
NIT Warangal: 34 posts, most of them assistant professor
The Warangal drive, advertised as NITW/FR-2/2026, covers four levels. There is one post for a professor, three for associate professors, six for assistant professor Grade I and 24 for assistant professor Grade II. That adds up to 30 assistant professor openings.
Pay follows the 7th CPC scale: Pay Level 14A for professors, 13A2 for associate professors, Level 12 for assistant professor Grade I and Level 10 for Grade II. The essential qualification at every level is a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline with first class in the preceding degrees. Candidates who moved to a Ph.D. directly after a B.E. or B.Tech. can also apply, provided they secured a first class at the bachelor’s level.
The application fee is Rs 2,000 for unreserved, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates and Rs 1,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. A separate application goes in for each post. Candidates should apply through the official NIT Warangal faculty portal and read the full employment notice before paying, since departments can set their own shortlisting criteria above the minimum.
IIT Kanpur drive closes October 31
IIT Kanpur’s Special Recruitment Drive 2026-001 is for Indian nationals from SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS and PwD categories. It covers assistant professor Grade I and Grade II posts across close to 20 departments, from computer science and aerospace engineering to the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems.
The portal stays open till 5 PM on October 31. A fresh Ph.D. can be taken on a three-year contract, which can be regularised later; candidates with three or more years of post-Ph.D. teaching, research or industry experience can be appointed on a regular basis. Pay runs from Rs 89,800 to Rs 98,200 at Level 10 up to Rs 1,01,500 to Rs 1,67,400 at Level 12. The notification mentions no application fee.
IISER Mohali: 21 posts, deadline November 20
IISER Mohali’s advertisement, IISER M/F/(01)/Regular/2026, lists 21 assistant professor posts across departments including earth and environmental sciences, biological sciences, mathematical sciences, humanities and social sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, science education, data science and artificial intelligence.
Applications are online only through the IISER Mohali recruitment portal, and the last date is November 20 at 5 PM. Forms sent by email will not be considered. Pull your application documents together before you start, because the correction options for faculty forms are far narrower than for student applications.
