Law aspirants eyeing forensic science have a date to put in the diary first: the CLAT deadline, ahead of the university form. The National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) has said its law programmes for 2027-28 will admit students only on Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 scores. Its own application window opens later, on January 7, 2027, so the CLAT result comes first and the NFSU form follows.

The announcement came from the university’s School of Law, Forensic Justice and Policy Studies. NFSU, headquartered in Gandhinagar, was earlier known as Gujarat Forensic Sciences University and was upgraded to a national university in October 2020.

What is on offer

Four programme groups are covered by the announcement, spread across three campuses:

  • BSc LLB (Hons) in Data Science and Law at Gandhinagar
  • BBA LLB (Hons) at Delhi
  • LLM in Cyber Law and Cyber Crime Investigation at Gandhinagar and Bhubaneswar
  • LLM in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration at Gandhinagar and Delhi

Undergraduate applicants will need a CLAT UG 2027 score, and LLM applicants will need a CLAT PG 2027 score. NFSU has described the CLAT route as exclusive for these programmes, so there is no separate NFSU entrance test for them in this cycle.

Two deadlines before January

The immediate deadline belongs to CLAT, not to NFSU. Registration for CLAT UG and PG 2027 closes on November 7, 2026, at 11:59 pm, extended from the original October 31 deadline. The exam itself is on December 6, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Candidates who have already applied get one more window: test centre preferences can be updated until November 10, 2026, at 11:59 pm, and the same window can be used to correct a name, date of birth, programme applied for, or reservation eligibility. No change requests will be accepted after that time.

Two cities have dropped off the test centre list. Vellore and Tiruvarur are no longer CLAT 2027 centre cities, and candidates who had picked either one were advised to choose an alternative city in the update window. On the paper itself, there is no change to the syllabus, pattern, or sections for either the UG or PG papers, although the convenor and paper setters will consider the CLAT Expert Committee’s recommendations on question format and quality wherever feasible.

Who can apply

NFSU’s admission portal lists the eligibility for each programme group. The integrated BBA LLB needs a CLAT score and a Class 12 pass in any stream with 50 percent marks, or 45 percent for SC, ST and PwD candidates. The BSc LLB needs a CLAT score and Class 12 in the science stream, or in commerce or arts with mathematics or statistics, again with 50 percent, or 45 percent for SC, ST and PwD candidates. The LLM programmes need a PG CLAT score and a three-year LLB after graduation, or a five-year integrated law programme, with 50 percent aggregate.

Applicants should still check the 2027-28 details on the official NFSU website when the January window opens, since campus-wise seats and final instructions will be published there. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers to keep ready before then. Students weighing Gandhinagar against Delhi or Bhubaneswar can also read our guide to choosing a university in India.

The dates set the plan: CLAT registration closes first, the exam follows in December, and the NFSU form opens in January. Anyone who misses the November 7 CLAT deadline will have no score for NFSU to consider.
