NEET PG 2026: allotted doctors cannot join as nodal officers stay unreachable

Doctors who won a postgraduate medical seat this week are finding that the hardest part of admission is getting someone on the phone. Candidates allotted seats in NEET PG 2026 counselling say they cannot finish the online joining process because the nodal officers named on the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) portal are unreachable, and in one case the number listed is made of zeros.
What candidates are reporting
At Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, candidates say the nodal officer’s mobile phone stays switched off and the landline numbers do not connect. When they turned to the MCC helpline, they say they were told to contact the allotted college, which sent them back to the same dead numbers.
The problem is not limited to one institution. At the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), the portal lists a nodal officer mobile number shown as “00000000”. An email address is listed alongside it, but candidates say their messages have gone unanswered. The portal itself tells candidates that document verification is pending at the allotted institute and advises them to contact the nodal officer. When that officer cannot be reached, there is no other route the portal offers.
Why the timing makes it worse
The complaints have surfaced inside the Round 1 reporting window. Candidates allotted seats in Round 1 must report to their allotted colleges between October 26 and November 2, 2026, and institutes are due to verify the data of joined candidates and share it with the MCC on November 3.
That deadline is what turns a wrong phone number into a real risk. Candidates say delays over document verification leave them unsure whether their joining formalities have been completed in time.
The pressure is sharpest for candidates who picked the float option. A float candidate keeps the allotted seat while staying eligible for an upgrade in a later round, but only if the current joining is verified on time. Without a working contact at the college, that verification hangs in limbo.
Outdated records behind the complaints
A separate complaint points to records that have not been updated at all. A former nodal officer for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) programme in Jammu and Kashmir has pointed out that an MCC allotment letter dated October 23 still listed his name and personal mobile number, even though he has retired from the post.
That detail matters because it suggests the problem is wider than a few switched-off phones. If the portal carries names of people who no longer hold the post, candidates can do everything right and still reach the wrong person. A senior official has said the committee will take the matter up with the colleges, ask them to update their contact details, and raise it in a meeting to seek a resolution.
What candidates should do now
Until the records are corrected, candidates should keep a written trail of every attempt to reach their college. Save screenshots of the portal message showing verification pending, note the date and time of each call, and keep copies of every email sent to the listed address. If the MCC helpline redirects you to the college, note that too.
Check the official MCC counselling portal for the current reporting instructions rather than relying on forwarded messages, and keep the documents reporting desks usually ask for ready. Our admission documents checklist runs through that paperwork, and VMMC itself is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
The fix candidates are asking for is simple: working phone numbers, answered emails, and a portal that lists the person who actually holds the post today. Until that happens, an allotment letter alone does not guarantee a smooth admission.
