Candidates allotted a seat in NEET PG 2026 Round 1 can start reporting to their colleges today. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has opened the reporting window for October 26 to November 2, 2026, following the release of the Round 1 final allotment result on October 24. Anyone with an allotment in this round has seven days to complete the formalities, and the seat is not secured until that process is done.
The first step is on the MCC portal. Candidates should download the Round 1 allotment letter from the official MCC website and check the institute, course and reporting instructions printed on it.
Freeze or Float: the choice that comes first
Before reporting, every allotted candidate has to pick one of two options, and the choice decides what happens next.
Freeze is for candidates who are satisfied with the seat they got. They do not want an upgrade in later rounds. They report physically at the allotted institute with original documents and complete admission there.
Float is for candidates who want a shot at a better seat in the next round. They do not have to visit the institute in person. Instead, they complete provisional joining online and upload their documents for verification by the institute. The seat from Round 1 stays with them while they wait for the next round, which is the whole point of floating: it keeps a confirmed seat in hand while leaving the door open to something better.
This online route for Float candidates is one of the changes MCC has made this year. Until last year, reporting, upgradation and resignation all required candidates to physically report at the institute.
Documents to carry for reporting
Reporting goes faster when the file is complete. Candidates should carry the NEET PG 2026 scorecard or rank letter, the MBBS degree or provisional certificate, the internship completion certificate, the medical registration certificate, identity proof and passport-size photographs. Candidates claiming a reserved category or a disability quota should carry those certificates as well.
Our admission documents checklist runs through the papers candidates usually need at this stage. A missing certificate is the most common reason a reporting visit ends in a second trip, and the window does not leave much room for one.
What the round covers
MCC conducts counselling for 50 percent of the All India Quota MD and MS seats, along with seats in deemed and central universities and DNB courses. State authorities counsel the remaining state quota seats separately, so candidates in state rounds should follow their state schedule rather than this one.
The Round 1 schedule ran through registration from October 12 to 21, choice filling and locking from October 13 to 22, and allotment processing on October 22 and 23, before the result on October 24. Reporting is the last step of this round. Candidates who float stay in the running for the next round, while candidates who freeze close their counselling at the institute they report to.
What to do today
Download the allotment letter, pick Freeze or Float, and start reporting rather than leaving it to the last two days. A document mismatch found on November 1 leaves almost no time to fix. Candidates who are unsure which option suits them should weigh it plainly: Freeze ends the uncertainty, Float keeps it alive with a seat already secured. Either way, the November 2 deadline is the same, and missing it puts the Round 1 seat at risk.
