13,522 MD and MS seats are on the table in the first round of NEET PG 2026 counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee released its seat matrix on Tuesday, giving candidates the full institute-wise and course-wise list under the All India Quota, the central internal quota, DNB programmes and deemed universities.

The matrix is the document candidates need before they touch the choice form. It tells them which colleges and courses are available in each category, so they can build a preference list that matches their rank instead of guessing.

What the seat matrix contains

The headline number is 13,522 MD/MS seats under the All India Quota. The DNB matrix breaks down separately: 2,582 seats in government institutions and 6,619 in private ones.

Each entry lists the college, the course, and the category-wise split. Candidates should compare these details against their own rank, fees, stipend, and any service bond conditions before they start filling choices. If two colleges look similar on paper, the NIRF rankings guide can help sort them.

Round 1 dates

Registration for Round 1 opened on October 12 and stays open until October 21. Choice filling and locking runs from October 13 to October 22. MCC will process the seat allotment on October 22 and 23 and publish the result on October 24. Candidates who get a seat report to the allotted institute between October 26 and November 2.

Only candidates who qualified NEET PG 2026 can take part. The MCC round covers 50 percent of the All India Quota MD and MS seats along with deemed and central university seats. The remaining seats go through state counselling, which runs on a separate schedule.

How to download the seat matrix

  1. Go to the official MCC portal.
  2. Click on the PG Medical section on the homepage.
  3. Under Current Events, open the separate links for AIQ, central internal quota, DNB and deemed university seats.
  4. The seat matrix opens as a PDF. Download it and keep a copy.

What candidates should do now

Read the matrix before opening the choice form. Shortlist colleges by your rank, then order the choices from most wanted to least. Review the full list once more before locking, and save the final locked list as a PDF.

Have your reporting documents ready before the result is out. Keep your admission documents organised, because the reporting window runs from October 26 to November 2 and late joiners can lose the seat.
