Candidates chasing a postgraduate medical seat in Madhya Pradesh have until midnight tonight to finish one step that decides everything else in the round. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Madhya Pradesh, closes Round 1 choice filling and locking for NEET PG 2026 counselling on October 27, and the allotment result follows on October 29.
The window opened on October 24. Since then, candidates on the state merit list have been able to log in to the DME portal, arrange their preferred colleges and courses in order, and lock those preferences. Tonight is the cut-off. After midnight, no new choices can be added and no locked list can be changed.
What closes tonight, and why locking matters
Filling choices alone is not enough. DME treats unlocked choices as null, which means a candidate who picks colleges but never locks them will not be considered when seats are allotted. The lock, confirmed through the candidate login, is what turns a draft preference list into a valid entry for the October 29 allotment.
Only candidates named in the Round 1 state merit list can take part. DME published that list on October 21, with 4,776 registered candidates marked eligible for MD, MS, Post-MBBS DNB and PG Diploma seats across government medical colleges, private colleges and minority institutions in the state. The final seat matrix, published on October 23 after objections to the vacancy list were settled, shows the seats actually on offer in each programme.
Candidates still deciding should check that matrix before locking, so top slots are not wasted on seats that are not available.
The Round 1 dates that follow
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Choice filling and locking closes | October 27, 2026, midnight |
| Round 1 seat allotment result | October 29, 2026 |
| Physical reporting and document verification | October 30 to November 10, 2026 |
| Online resignation or cancellation of admission | October 30 to November 10, 2026 |
Allotted candidates must report in person to their colleges between October 30 and November 10, with document verification completed at the college. The reporting window closes at 6 PM on November 10. Candidates who want to give up a seat can do so online over the same period.
How to lock choices before midnight
Candidates should log in to the official DME Madhya Pradesh counselling portal with their registered credentials, open the choice filling section, and arrange courses and colleges in the order they genuinely prefer. Once the order is set, complete the lock step and save the confirmation, since the October 29 allotment runs strictly on the locked order.
Keep the original documents ready now rather than after the result. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers colleges usually ask for at reporting, and candidates heading to colleges affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University should also check their college instructions.
Candidates who miss tonight’s deadline will not figure in Round 1 allotment at all, and an unlocked or unfilled list cannot be carried forward. Before midnight, the task is short: log in, check the final seat matrix, order the choices, and lock them.
