Registration for one more national round of medical counselling opened this morning. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has started the NEET UG 2026 special stray vacancy round for MBBS seats, giving candidates who are still without a seat a short window to register, fill choices and wait for allotment.
The window is short by design. Registration and payment run from November 2 to November 4, and the payment facility closes at 3 pm on November 4. Candidates who leave registration for the last hour risk running into payment or portal delays, and there is no indication of an extension in the published schedule.
The dates to keep in front of you
Choice filling opened alongside registration on November 2. Candidates can fill choices until November 5, but the locking window is narrower: choice locking opens at 4 pm on November 4 and closes at 11 am on November 5, as per server timing. A choice that is filled but not locked does not count in allotment, so locking matters as much as filling.
The MCC will process seat allotment on November 5 and 6 and publish the result on November 7. Candidates who get a seat must report to the allotted college between November 7 and November 16, with reporting closing at 5 pm on November 16.
Candidates should register only through the official MCC counselling portal and check it for any change to the schedule. Portals and social media posts that promise seats outside the MCC process are not part of this round.
What to have ready before you register
This round moves fast, and reporting starts the same day the result is declared. That leaves little room to chase paperwork after allotment. Candidates who are allotted a seat on November 7 will need their original documents in hand for verification at the college.
Our admission documents checklist sets out the originals and copies that reporting desks usually ask for. Checking that list before November 4 is worth the time, since the registration window closes first and the reporting window opens almost immediately after the result.
Choice order deserves the same care. With only a few days between registration and allotment, candidates should rank colleges in the order they would actually join, rather than filling the list with names they would turn down. A seat taken and then abandoned is a seat another candidate could have used, and it can also affect eligibility in later rounds.
BDS and BSc Nursing get a sixth round too
The MCC schedule also covers a sixth round for BDS and BSc Nursing seats. Registration and payment for that round run from November 17 to 19, 2026, with choice filling in the same window. Choice locking for this round opens at 4 pm on November 18 and closes at 9 am on November 19.
Allotment processing for the BDS and BSc Nursing round takes place on November 19, and the result will be declared on November 20. Candidates allotted seats in this round must report to their colleges between November 21 and November 28, with reporting closing at 5 pm on November 28.
For MBBS aspirants, though, the immediate dates are the ones that matter this week: register by 3 pm on November 4, lock choices by 11 am on November 5, and check the result on November 7.
