Maharashtra has fixed one academic calendar for every public university in the state. The calendar was drafted by the Maharashtra State Academic and Research Council (MahaSARC), the state’s apex advisory and regulatory body, with inputs from the vice-chancellors of all universities. It applies from the current academic year, 2026-27.
For traditional courses in arts, commerce and science, the first term begins between June 10 and July 1, with examinations between October and November, and ends between November 15 and December 15. The second term starts between November 20 and January 5, with examinations between March 20 and May 15, 2027. Each term is expected to have 90 instructional days, spread over 13 to 15 weeks.
Professional courses get their own dates. For engineering, pharmacy, architecture, law and management, the first term begins between June and July, with examinations between October and December, and the second term starts between November and December, with examinations between March and May. The calendar for first-year professional courses will follow the schedule of the state’s CET cell. Separate calendars have been drafted for different faculties.
Results in 30 days, revaluation in 30 more
The calendar sets hard numbers for results and revaluation. Universities are expected to announce results within 30 days of the last examination. The application window for revaluation stays open for 15 days. Photocopies of answer sheets must be provided within 15 days of application, and the revaluation process must be completed within 30 days of the result declaration.
The calendar also names who answers for delays. Meeting admission deadlines and academic session timelines is the responsibility of the registrar, working with the vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor. Conducting examinations, declaring results on time and completing revaluation is the responsibility of the director of the board of examinations and evaluations, along with the vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor.
The point of the change is uniformity. The state wants the same number of teaching days across universities, the same exam schedules, and the same result timelines, so that students who move between universities for higher education face the same academic year everywhere. That covers large state universities such as the University of Mumbai and Savitribai Phule Pune University, along with every other public university in the state.
The calendar follows a direction issued in October, when Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil told all public universities to adopt a common academic calendar from 2026-27. The full schedule is expected to be uploaded by universities across the state in the coming days.
