Doctors aiming for a postgraduate medical seat in Maharashtra have one day left to register for state counselling. Registration for Maharashtra NEET PG 2026 counselling closes on October 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM on the official counselling portal. The process is run by the State CET Cell and covers the 50% state quota seats in MD, MS and PG Diploma courses at medical colleges across Maharashtra.

The portal opened on October 17, so the full registration window is just seven days. Only NEET PG 2026 qualified candidates can register, and admission happens on the basis of NEET PG merit. Anyone waiting for the last evening should remember that counselling portals slow down under last-minute traffic, and a failed payment at 11 PM on October 23 would be a hard miss.

Money and documents come first

Registration itself is free of charge at the form stage, but the process is not complete without the Rs 3,000 registration fee, payable online. The fee payment link stays active till 5 PM on October 24, a day after registration closes.

Online document verification continues till 11:59 PM on October 27. After that, the State CET Cell will publish the list of registered candidates along with the provisional merit list on October 28. The application asks for personal and academic details plus scanned originals, so candidates should have their NEET PG scorecard, MBBS degree or passing certificate, internship completion certificate and registration certificate scanned in good quality. Our admission documents checklist has the full list of certificates worth keeping on hand.

What happens next

Candidates on the merit list move to CAP Round 1, where online choice or preference filling runs from November 2 to 4, 2026. That is the window where candidates rank colleges and courses in order of preference. Allotment follows the merit list and the preferences entered, so it pays to research colleges before the window opens rather than during it.

State counselling is separate from the MCC’s All India Quota process. The MCC closed choice filling and locking for its Round 1 at 10 AM on October 22, with the allotment result due on October 24, as covered in our report on NEET PG 2026 Round 1 choice locking. Many candidates register for both to keep their options open.

Maharashtra’s medical PG seats sit within the state’s health sciences system, whose public university is the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Nashik. Anyone still weighing where to apply should read our guide to choosing a university in India before the preference-filling window arrives.
