Students in Jharkhand who missed earlier admission rounds have one more window. Kolhan University reopened the Chancellor Portal on Saturday for its four-year undergraduate programmes for the 2026-30 session and undergraduate vocational courses for the 2026-29 session. The last date to apply online is October 28, 2026.

This is the fourth time the university has reopened the portal for the current academic session. The trigger, according to the university, was the declaration of Intermediate examination results by the Jharkhand Academic Council, along with requests from colleges. Sanjay Yadav, the dean of academic affairs, said it was necessary to reopen the portal after the Intermediate compartmental examination results came out.

Who can apply and how

Anyone who has passed the Intermediate or Class 12 examination can apply. Applications run through the Jharkhand Chancellor Portal, where candidates can apply to more than one college. Where seats in a preferred course are limited, applicants are advised to consider alternative subjects as well.

The application fee is Rs 25 per subject. Vice-chancellor Anjila Gupta has asked students to apply before the deadline, enter accurate information, and choose colleges and subjects based on their interests, academic aptitude and career prospects.

Taking the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is not mandatory for this round. Admission depends on subject-wise seat allocation and availability, so applying early does not guarantee a seat, but it keeps every option open until the merit lists appear.

What to keep ready

Under the National Education Policy 2020, applicants need an Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID and an Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID through DigiLocker. Information on the ABC ID is available on the official ABC portal. Students who have not created these IDs yet should do it before the merit lists come out, since colleges will ask for them during admission formalities.

The admission documents checklist runs through the standard set of papers colleges usually ask for, so it is worth checking that list before the merit list window opens.

Merit lists from October 29

Colleges will publish their merit lists on their own websites and notice boards between October 29 and November 3, 2026. Selected candidates must complete their admission formalities in the same period. A name on a merit list is not the end of the process, so selected students should report to the college within that window rather than waiting for a reminder.

Kolhan University, headquartered at Chaibasa, was established in 2009 and serves East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts. It has more than 80,000 students enrolled across 20 constituent and 32 affiliated colleges, and records about 19,000 enrolments a year. That number has declined over the past five years, which Yadav put down to minor fluctuations, with students picking courses that line up with their career plans.

For students still deciding between institutions, the how to choose a university in India guide covers how to weigh course fit and location before locking in a preference.
