Candidates for Karnataka PGCET 2026 have until 2 pm on November 4 to submit fresh options in the extended counselling round. The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) opened the window on October 31 at 2 pm, and the provisional seat allotment result is due on November 5 after 1 pm.

The extra round exists because of a Supreme Court order dated October 29, which extended the admission deadline and directed KEA to run another round of allotment. It covers seats left vacant after the earlier rounds, along with seats where allotted candidates did not report to their colleges.

Who can take part

Three groups of candidates can enter the extended round. The first is candidates who did not get a seat in the earlier rounds. The second is candidates who have already joined their allotted colleges and want to try for an upgrade. The third is candidates who cancelled an allotted seat earlier after paying the prescribed penalty.

One group is kept out. Candidates who were allotted seats in the October 13 to 15 round but neither paid the fees nor reported to their colleges could not enter directly. KEA gave them until 6 pm on October 31 to either pay the fees and report to the allotted college or cancel the seat online by paying a penalty of Rs 10,000. Candidates who had already paid course fees and then cancelled get the balance back after the Rs 10,000 deduction.

The caution deposit

Most participants must pay a caution deposit between October 31 and November 3. The amount is Rs 35,000 for general and other categories and Rs 10,000 for SC/ST candidates. Candidates who have already reported to their allotted colleges do not pay it.

The deposit is adjusted against the admission fee if a seat is allotted. A candidate who gets a seat but fails to pay the remaining fees or report to the college forfeits the deposit and faces the full fee as penalty under the applicable rules.

Fresh options only

Every participating candidate must enter college and course preferences again for this round. Options submitted during the earlier counselling rounds will not be considered, even if the candidate is happy with the same choices. KEA has asked applicants to check the available seats and arrange their new choices in order of preference before submitting them on the official KEA portal.

The window is short, and the choices entered here decide the allotment. Read the seat matrix before locking anything, and rank colleges in the order you would actually join rather than the order you think will impress anyone. Our guide to choosing a university in India covers the practical checks worth making before ranking a college, from course strength to location and fees.

Paperwork should be ready before any reporting window opens after the allotment. The admission documents checklist covers the originals and copies candidates are usually asked for at joining.
