Doctors aiming for a postgraduate medical seat in Karnataka have until tonight to act. The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) closes Round 1 registration for NEET PG 2026 counselling today, October 25, 2026, on its portal, cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. Anyone who has not registered by the cutoff will not be considered when Round 1 seats are allotted.

This is an extended deadline. Registration first opened on October 5 and was originally due to close on October 15. KEA then pushed the last date to October 25, giving candidates ten extra days to complete the form. With the extension now ending, there is no reason to wait for the final hours, when admission portals tend to slow down under heavy traffic.

The counselling covers MD, MS, PG Diploma and DNB courses in government and private medical colleges across Karnataka. Seats are allotted on the basis of NEET PG 2026 scores, and the round covers both state quota and management quota seats. Only NEET PG qualified candidates can take part.

How to register

Candidates should register through the official KEA portal. The steps are straightforward. Open the PGET 2026 section on the portal, click the PG NEET online registration link, and enter your NEET PG details. Fill in personal and academic information, pay the application fee, and submit the form. Save the confirmation page once the application goes through, since it carries the details needed for every later query.

Double-check every entry before submitting. A mismatch between the form and the NEET PG record can cause trouble at verification, and fixing it after the deadline is not something to count on.

What happens after registration

Registration alone does not put a candidate in line for a seat. KEA requires document verification, and only verified candidates move on to option entry, where they list preferred colleges and specialisations in order. Candidates should keep their NEET PG rank card, MBBS degree certificate and other registration documents ready for verification. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers candidates usually need at this stage.

When option entry opens, the order of choices matters as much as the rank. Seats are allotted on merit and on the preferences entered, so candidates should research colleges and specialisations before filling the form rather than rushing through it on the last day. Our guide to choosing a university in India explains how to compare institutions on factors beyond the name.

What to check before tonight

First, confirm the form is fully submitted, not just started. Second, keep the fee payment receipt and the confirmation page saved. Third, watch the KEA portal for the verification schedule and the option entry dates, since those are the next two steps in the round. Missing verification after registering would waste the effort of meeting the deadline, so candidates should treat it as part of the same task, not a separate one.
