Weeks of refreshing the JEE Main website might pay off on Monday. The National Testing Agency refreshed the official JEE Main portal on Monday morning, and major education desks from Careers360 to Collegedunia are now running live registration updates. The Session 1 notification is expected any time.
Shiksha, which first flagged the update, notes the timing matches last year’s cycle almost exactly: the NTA released the registration notification on October 19 last year.
What is confirmed so far
The exam dates are settled: the NTA’s official examination calendar lists Session 1 on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027. Session 2 is expected in April. The registration dates and fee are still awaited, but the past two cycles opened on October 31 and October 28 respectively, with deadlines in late November.
Last year’s window opened on October 31 and closed on November 27, about four weeks. Anyone with a document mismatch will have almost no time to fix it once the portal opens.
Who can apply
Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing for it in 2027, will be eligible, with no age limit. For NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions, though, candidates need at least 75 per cent in Class 12 or a place in the top 20 percentile of their board; the threshold is 65 per cent for SC and ST candidates.
Keep your documents ready
This is the part you can finish today. Careers360, The Indian Express and Collegedunia all advise keeping the paperwork ready: a recent photograph, a scanned signature, the Class 10 certificate or marksheet, a valid identity document, and category or PwD certificates where they apply. An active mobile number and email ID are needed for OTP-based registration.
Fix mismatches before you apply. The NTA verifies names, dates of birth and addresses against Aadhaar details, and those details have to match the Class 10 certificate. A correction takes days, and the window will not wait. Our admission documents checklist walks through the standard paperwork for any entrance application.
How registration will work
Once the official JEE Main portal activates the Session 1 link, candidates register with basic details to get an application number, then fill the form, upload documents, pick exam cities and pay the fee online. The fee and payment methods will be confirmed in the official notification, and candidates should download the confirmation page and keep their login credentials for admit cards and results.
Aspirants can appear in one session or both; those who take both get the better of their two scores for ranking. The scores feed admissions to NITs, IIITs and government-funded technical institutes, and are the gateway to JEE Advanced, the entrance for the IITs. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi will conduct JEE Advanced next year.
