The JEE Main 2027 application form could be live within two weeks. Going by the pattern of the last three years, the National Testing Agency is expected to open Session 1 registration at jeemain.nta.nic.in in the fourth week of October.
Last year the form went live on October 31. In 2024 it opened on October 28, and in 2023 on November 1. NTA has kept to this late-October rhythm three years running, so aspirants should scan their documents now rather than scramble when the portal opens. The application window usually stays open for about a month, with the deadline expected in the last week of November.
Exam dates are already fixed
NTA’s published calendar puts the Session 1 exams on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, 2027, with January 31 kept as a buffer date. Session 2 is expected in April 2027.
JEE Main is the main route into undergraduate engineering at NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes. For students weighing institutes like NIT Trichy against other options, our guide to choosing a university in India explains what to look at beyond cutoffs and ranks.
Who can apply
Eligibility is broad. Students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing for the exam in 2027, can apply. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects at the Class 12 level, along with one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject. There is no upper age limit for JEE Main.
Documents to keep ready
Have these scanned before the portal opens: a recent passport-size photograph, your signature, the Class 10 marksheet or certificate, and a valid category certificate if you are claiming reservation. The exact size and format specifications will be in the information bulletin that NTA releases with the form. Our admission documents checklist walks through the full set of papers students usually need when applying to Indian universities.
How to apply once the link is live
Go to the official JEE Main portal, click the Session 1 registration link, fill in your personal and academic details, upload the documents, pay the fee online and save the confirmation page. Download a copy of the final form and keep your application number safe. You will need it later for the admit card and the result.
What to watch for next
The information bulletin will confirm the fee structure, the correction window dates and how exam cities are allotted. NTA releases the exam city intimation slip and the admit cards separately, closer to the exam dates, so check the portal regularly after you apply.
