The link went live late on Saturday night. The National Testing Agency opened JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration on October 24, 2026, and engineering aspirants can now apply on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The timing caught many candidates by surprise: through Saturday evening the site showed no active application link, and the form appeared only later that night.
The dates that matter
The application window runs from October 24 to November 22, 2026, and both the form and the fee must be completed by 11:50 pm on November 22. Candidates who miss that deadline get a second chance. NTA will accept forms from November 23 to 26 with a late fee of Rs 500, and the fee for that window must also be paid by 11:50 pm on November 26.
After that, the correction window opens from November 27 to 29. The exam city intimation slip follows on December 30, 2026, and admit cards will be available from January 13, 2027.
Exam dates revised from the tentative calendar
Session 1 will be held on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027. That is a change from the tentative calendar NTA published in September, which had listed January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30. Candidates who planned their preparation around the older dates should rework their schedule around the six new dates, since the notification dates are the ones that will be followed.
Papers, shifts and question counts
Paper 1, for B.E. and B.Tech, has 75 questions across Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Paper 2A, for B.Arch, has 77 questions covering Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing, with the drawing test held offline on a drawing sheet. Paper 2B, for B.Planning, has 100 questions across Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning.
Paper 1 runs in two shifts each day, from 9 am to noon and from 3 pm to 6 pm. Paper 2A and Paper 2B run in the first shift, from 9 am to noon. Candidates taking both B.Arch and B.Planning get three and a half hours, with timings extending to 12:30 pm in the morning shift and 6:30 pm in the afternoon shift.
How to apply
The process follows the usual sequence on the official JEE Main website: register with personal and contact details, log in with the application number, fill the form, pick the paper and exam cities, upload the photograph and documents, pay the fee, and download the confirmation page. Keep that confirmation page safe, since it is the proof that the application went through.
JEE Main is the gateway to National Institutes of Technology, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes, and Paper 1 scores also decide who qualifies for JEE Advanced, the entrance test for the 23 IITs, including the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Our admission documents checklist covers the standard set of papers to keep ready: a scanned photograph and signature, the Class 10 certificate, and a category or PwD certificate where applicable.
One practical warning: the last day always brings heavy traffic to the portal. Candidates who leave the form for November 22 risk payment failures and timeouts, and the late-fee window costs Rs 500 extra. Applying well before the deadline avoids both problems.
