November 22 is the date JEE Main 2027 applicants need to work backwards from. The National Testing Agency opened registration for Session 1 on October 24, and the regular window closes at 11:50 pm on that day. Candidates who miss it get a second chance from November 23 to 26, but that comes with a late fee of Rs 500.

The January session itself runs on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027, in computer-based test mode, in two shifts each day. That leaves roughly four weeks between the deadline and the exam, so the form needs to be right the first time.

The five checks in the bulletin

First, check Aadhaar details. The agency asks candidates to make sure the photograph, name, date of birth, gender and address on their Aadhaar record are current, since mismatches cause trouble at identity verification. Registration is also possible through the government’s MeriPehchaan single sign-on service.

Second, keep the Class 10 certificate ready. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of their Class 10 certificate or marksheet as a PDF between 50 KB and 300 KB, and the personal and educational details entered in the form should match that record.

Third, prepare for the live photograph. Applicants must capture one during registration and also upload a recent scanned passport-size photograph. The scanned photo must be in JPG or JPEG format, between 10 KB and 200 KB, with a white background and 80 per cent face visibility, including the ears. Candidates without a webcam can use the QR-code option in the bulletin to capture the live photograph through another device.

Fourth, verify category and disability details. Category and PwD or PwBD information should be checked carefully, and disability or UDID certificates, where applicable, must be uploaded as PDFs between 50 KB and 300 KB. The agency says UDID details may be verified against the official portal, and any validation issue must be resolved during the correction window.

Fifth, check contact details, exam cities and payment. Candidates should use their own active mobile number and email address, since the agency sends its communications through those channels, and verify the paper selected, the exam cities chosen and the other particulars. After paying the fee, the confirmation page must be generated and kept.

What the correction window will and will not fix

The correction window runs from November 27 to 29, 2026, and only specified fields will be editable then, so applicants should not assume every mistake can be undone later. The city intimation slip follows on December 30, 2026, and the admit card on January 13, 2027.

Students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or who are appearing in 2027, can apply, provided they studied physics and mathematics along with one of chemistry, biotechnology, biology or a technical vocational subject. There is no age limit.

Where JEE Main leads

JEE Main is the route into undergraduate engineering, architecture and planning programmes at participating institutions, including the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and other NITs, IIITs and government-funded technical institutions. It is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced: the top 2,50,000 eligible qualifiers can appear for the IIT entrance.

Applications go through the official JEE Main portal. Before logging in, run through the admission documents checklist so the uploads are in the right format and size.
