A wrong photograph, a misspelt name, a category picked in a hurry. For JEE Main 2027 Session 1 applicants, that kind of slip no longer means living with the mistake. The National Testing Agency said in a public notice on October 30, 2026 that candidates can file a fresh application form, even if they already have an application number or have paid the examination fee.
The notice followed representations from candidates who reported errors while filling out their forms. It applies to Session 1, the January 2027 session. Registration opened on October 24, 2026, and the regular window runs till November 22.
What a fresh form actually means
A fresh form counts as a separate registration, with a new application number. The candidate enters every detail again and uploads the photograph, signature and other documents afresh; nothing carries over from the earlier form.
The rule that decides which form counts is precise. Only the last application for which the fee has been paid successfully and a confirmation page generated will be treated as valid. That detail also works as a safety net: if a candidate starts a fresh form but does not finish the payment or generate the confirmation page, the earlier completed application remains valid.
The expensive part is the fee. NTA has stated plainly that the examination fee paid against an earlier application will neither be refunded nor adjusted against the fresh one, so a candidate who files again pays the full fee a second time.
The dates to keep
A fresh application, including fee payment, must be completed by November 22, 2026, up to 11:50 pm to avoid a late fee. Forms submitted from November 23 to November 26, 2026, up to 11:50 pm, carry an additional late fee of Rs 500. The same deadlines apply to first-time applicants, and forms go in on the official JEE Main website.
For small errors, the correction window is the cheaper route. NTA will open it from November 27 to November 29, 2026, and candidates who need to change only certain details should use it instead of filing a fresh form. Candidates are permitted only one attempt per session, NTA reiterated.
Session 1 is scheduled for January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027. Scores decide admission to National Institutes of Technology, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes, and the top qualifiers move on to JEE Advanced, which Indian Institute of Technology Delhi will conduct in 2027.
Fresh form or correction window
The choice comes down to the size of the error and the cost of fixing it. If the mistake sits in a field the correction window allows you to edit, waiting till November 27 costs nothing. If it sits outside those fields, a fresh form is the only fix NTA has offered, and the price is a second fee payment.
One caution applies either way: a fresh form becomes valid the moment its fee is paid and its confirmation page is generated, so fill it with the same care as the first. Candidates who are unsure can contact the NTA help desk on 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or write to jeemain@nta.ac.in. Before paying a second fee, check the admission documents checklist so the new form does not repeat the old errors.
