Six lakh rupees off a nine lakh fee is the headline number at the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), Hyderabad this week. The institute has opened admissions for its two-year, full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes for the 2027-29 batch, and it has put its scholarship structure front and centre for applicants weighing the cost.

IPE says it awards scholarships worth more than Rs 2.5 crore every year to around 240 students. The largest single award is Rs 6 lakh per student, which covers two-thirds of the total programme fee of Rs 9 lakh, payable in instalments.

The Rs 6 lakh merit and means awards

The top tier is the IPE Merit and Means Scholarship. There are 27 of these, each worth Rs 6 lakh. To qualify, a student needs a score above the 80th percentile in CAT 2026 or XAT 2027 and a family income below Rs 8 lakh a year. Both conditions apply, so a high percentile alone does not secure the award.

Below that tier, entrance test scores still decide the amount. Students with CAT, XAT, MAT or GMAT percentiles can receive between Rs 80,000 and Rs 3 lakh. Those applying with CMAT or ATMA percentiles can receive between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh. Category is also considered in these awards.

Two smaller categories sit alongside the test-based awards. Sports and arts scholarships go up to Rs 4 lakh. A special scholarship is available for students from the northeastern states, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Applicants who want the exact criteria for their category should check the institute’s scholarship page before applying, since the amounts vary by percentile band and category.

Who can apply, and with which scores

Applicants need a bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognised institution with at least 50 per cent marks. The minimum is 45 per cent for SC, ST and PC candidates. IPE accepts CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA, GMAT and TGICET scores for the 2027-29 batch.

The entrance test calendar matters for timing. CAT 2026 is on November 29, 2026, MAT is on December 20 and 27, 2026, XAT 2027 is on January 3, 2027, and CMAT is on February 7, 2027. The last date to apply for XAT 2027 is December 6, 2026, so students planning to use a XAT score for the merit and means award need to keep that date in mind.

IPE runs six PGDM programmes from its 22-acre campus at Shamirpet, Hyderabad. The institute was established in 1964, is approved by AICTE, and holds NBA accreditation and SAQS accreditation, with MBA equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities. Its October admissions announcement also cited a highest package of Rs 23.5 lakh a year and a median package of about Rs 8 lakh a year for recent placements. Those figures come from the institute, and applicants should read them alongside the fee and scholarship terms rather than on their own.

Applications are open through the official IPE admissions portal, and the full scholarship details are on the institute’s tuition and financial aid page.
