The JAM 2027 portal was supposed to shut on October 19. It did not.
IIT Kharagpur has extended registration for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027 to October 22, 2026, giving MSc aspirants three more days. Candidates who had not finished their forms before yesterday’s cutoff can still submit them on the JOAPS portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in, the only official channel.
JAM is the national-level entrance exam for postgraduate science admissions in India, covering M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. and other PG programmes at the IITs, IISc and NITs. The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is the organising institute for the 2027 edition.
The deadline has moved twice
This is the second extension. Registration had originally been scheduled to close on October 12, then moved to October 19 in the first extension, and now sits at October 22. Registration opened on September 11, so the full window runs for nearly six weeks.
The pattern is worth noting. Two consecutive extensions suggest IIT Kharagpur wants to maximise the applicant pool this year, but students should not read it as a sign of a third extension. Nothing in the official announcements points to one.
The dates after the deadline
Once the application window closes, IIT Kharagpur plans to open a correction window tentatively on November 10, 2026. Candidates can use it to fix mistakes in their submitted forms, and the details will be announced on the JAM portal.
The exam itself is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2027, as a computer-based test. Before applying, students comparing PG options can read our guide on how to choose a university in India.
Do not wait for the final hours
The October 22 cutoff leaves very little margin. Portal congestion on the last day of a national entrance exam is a recurring problem, and a failed payment or a rejected document upload in the final hours leaves no time to recover. Submit the form, upload the photograph, signature and certificates, and pay the fee today rather than on the evening of October 22. Our admission documents checklist covers the scans and certificates worth keeping ready before you begin.
Anyone who misses this window will have to wait for JAM 2028. Given that this is already the second extension, that is a long wait to risk on three days of procrastination.
