Eight days. That is all the time left to register for IIT JAM 2027, the national-level exam for postgraduate science admissions at the IITs. The application portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in closes on Monday, October 19, 2026. No forms will be accepted after that.
The deadline was extended once already, so aspirants should not expect a second extension. If October 19 passes without a submitted form, the only option is to wait for JAM 2028.
The key dates, in one place
The exam is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur this year. Registration opened in September and runs through October 19, 2026. The exam itself is on February 14, 2027, and it will be a computer-based test held at centres across the country in two sessions: the forenoon session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
A correction window is expected to open around November 10, 2026, where applicants can fix errors in their submitted forms. Double-check the name and date of birth before you pay.
Who can apply
Anyone who has completed an undergraduate degree, or is appearing for the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2027, is eligible to apply. Candidates should read the eligibility conditions thoroughly before paying the fee, since applying without meeting them can end badly at the admission stage.
JAM 2027 has seven test papers: biotechnology, chemistry, economics, geology, mathematics, mathematical statistics and physics. Candidates can take one paper or two.
How to apply on the official JAM portal
Before starting the form, keep these documents scanned and ready: the Class 10 marksheet, a recent photograph, a scanned signature, and a category certificate if one applies to you. The application fee varies by category and by whether you choose one or two papers; the exact amount for your case is shown on the portal before payment.
Our admission documents checklist has the full list of what to keep ready so the form takes minutes, not an entire evening. And do not leave it for the night of October 19: portals slow down on deadline evenings, and a failed payment at 11 PM leaves no room to recover.
Why JAM matters for science graduates
For BSc graduates, JAM is the national route into postgraduate science programmes at the IITs. With the deadline eight days away, the sensible move is to apply now and sort out the details later.
