Two more days. IIT Kharagpur, the organising institute for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027, has pushed the registration deadline to October 24, 2026. The notice on the official portal calls this the last and final extension, so candidates who missed Thursday’s cutoff get one more window, and no one should count on another.
This is the third time the date has moved. Registration first closed on October 12, then moved to October 19, and then to October 22. The two extra days give late applicants the weekend to complete their forms, upload documents and pay the fee before the portal shuts.
JAM 2027 is the route into 89 postgraduate programmes across 23 IITs for the 2027-28 academic session. That covers MSc, Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD dual degree and integrated PhD programmes. JagranJosh reports roughly 3,000 seats on offer, which is why the deadline keeps drawing attention from science graduates across the country.
Exam schedule and papers
The test is computer-based and will be held on February 14, 2027, in two sessions. The forenoon session runs from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm with Chemistry, Geology and Mathematics. The afternoon session runs from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm with Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics.
A candidate can appear for one or two papers, but two papers are allowed only when they fall in different sessions. The question paper carries multiple choice, multiple select and numerical answer type questions. The result is expected on March 18, 2027.
Fee and how to apply
The application fee depends on category and on the number of papers. General category candidates pay Rs 2,000 for one paper and Rs 2,700 for two. Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates pay Rs 1,000 for one paper and Rs 1,350 for two papers.
Register on the official JAM portal through the JOAPS system. Fill in personal and academic details, choose test papers and three exam cities in order of preference, and upload the photograph, signature and category certificates in the prescribed format. Keep the documents in our admission documents checklist ready before you start. Pay the fee online and save the confirmation page, since a form counts as submitted only after payment.
A data-correction window is tentatively scheduled to open on November 10, 2026, for candidates who need to fix errors after submitting. Corrections are limited, so it is worth checking every field before the final submit.
