Students from outside India have six days left to apply for a postgraduate or doctoral seat at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. The institute has opened its international admissions portal for the 2026-27 academic year, and the application window for MTech, MSc, MA and PhD programmes closes on October 25, 2026.

This is the international round for the second semester of the academic year, and it runs on a separate portal from the institute’s domestic admissions. International candidates do not go through the domestic counselling routes; they apply directly on the portal built for them.

How to apply

Applications go in online only, through admissions.iitgn.ac.in/pginternational/login. The institute’s own announcements page lists the opening alongside its other admission notices.

The portal walks applicants through registration, personal and academic details, document uploads and fee payment. Before starting, candidates should check the programme pages for the exact disciplines taking international students this cycle, since availability can vary between departments. If something is unclear, the international student office can be reached at iso@iitgn.ac.in or on +91 079 2395 2056 and +91 079 2395 2054.

Programmes on offer

The international admissions page lists a wide spread of disciplines: computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, materials engineering, integrated circuit design and technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, earth sciences, biological sciences and engineering, cognitive and brain sciences, archaeological sciences, humanities and social sciences, and design.

The list covers most of the institute’s departments, so international candidates can pick across disciplines rather than staying inside one school. Candidates comparing their options can also look at our guide on how to choose a university in India, which covers what to weigh beyond rankings.

Fees and financial support

IIT Gandhinagar publishes a separate fee table for international students, and the numbers are worth reading before applying. For MTech and PhD programmes, academic fees are INR 2,20,000 a year for students from SAARC countries and INR 4,00,000 a year for others. For MSc and MA programmes, the figures are INR 2,10,000 and INR 3,90,000. A one-time admission fee and refundable deposit of INR 60,000 applies to all, and the institute puts living costs at about INR 1,20,000 a year.

On the support side, full-time international PhD students are listed as eligible for a monthly fellowship of INR 37,000, while MTech students are listed at INR 12,400 a month. These are the institute’s own published figures; candidates should confirm the current numbers on the admissions portal before paying anything.

Get the documents ready now

With the deadline six days away, the practical move is to line up the paperwork today: transcripts, degree certificates, a passport copy, and whatever the programme page asks for. An admission documents checklist helps catch the usual mistakes, like names spelled differently across certificates. Admission portals slow down badly in the last 48 hours, so finishing the form early is the simplest way to avoid losing a slot to a technical glitch.
