Working professionals who build or defend AI systems have a new option from IIT Delhi. The institute has launched a six-month online certificate programme in cybersecurity and AI security through its Continuing Education Programme (CEP), aimed at working professionals.

The course focuses on the threats that come with AI being used more widely inside companies. As language models and AI agents move into customer service, coding and everyday business decisions, the ways those systems can be attacked keep growing. This programme starts there, with how AI systems are attacked, and then moves to how they are defended.

What the course covers

The curriculum covers AI red teaming, adversarial machine learning, tool-calling security, memory poisoning and model supply chain risks, along with prompt injection and model security. Participants also learn tools and frameworks such as PyRIT, Garak, Sigstore, Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Falco.

Subodh Vishnu Sharma, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi, said the programme “takes a threat-first approach, helping professionals understand how AI systems are attacked and then build the defences to secure them, in line with India’s evolving regulatory requirements. With IIT Delhi faculty and industry practitioners guiding them, participants will work on real-world AI security problems.”

How the six months are structured

The programme runs to 78 hours of live instruction across five modules, followed by a capstone project. Classes are held live online on Saturdays and taught by IIT Delhi faculty members and industry professionals.

For the capstone, participants develop and deploy an AI security solution of their own, which IIT Delhi faculty check. By the end, participants have a solution they built and defended themselves.

Who can apply

Applicants need a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, AI, information technology, mathematics, statistics or an equivalent discipline, with at least 50 percent marks. Familiarity with a programming language is also required.

The course is pitched at cybersecurity professionals, AI and machine learning engineers, data scientists, DevOps and platform engineers, and people working in governance, risk and compliance. Those who complete it receive a digitally verified e-certificate of completion from IIT Delhi’s Continuing Education Programme.

IIT Delhi’s CEP has been adding short professional courses through the autumn. The institute also launched a six-month Executive Certificate in Agentic AI Systems in late October, aimed at a similar audience of working professionals.

Applications and full programme details are on the programme page run with IIT Delhi CEP.
