The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has opened the first batch of a certificate programme built around a shift in how companies use AI. Its Continuing Education Programme (CEP) announced the six-month Executive Certificate in Agentic AI Systems (Foundation to Deployment), aimed at professionals who need to build systems that do more than answer a prompt.
A conventional generative AI tool mainly produces text, images or other content in response to an instruction. An agentic system works differently: it reasons, plans, pulls in information, uses external tools and carries out a sequence of actions toward a defined goal. That is the gap the programme is designed to close, with a focus on enterprise settings where reliability and oversight matter as much as capability.
Eight modules, from foundations to deployment
The curriculum runs across eight core modules. It starts with the foundations of agentic AI and prompt engineering, then moves to autonomous agent design and enterprise knowledge systems. Later modules cover multi-agent orchestration, application deployment and enterprise-scale operations.
One module is set aside entirely for AI Trust, Risk and Security Management, known as AI TRiSM. It looks at model governance, explainability, security and regulatory compliance, and at the safeguards an organisation needs before it lets an autonomous system act on its behalf.
Participants will work with large language models and Retrieval-Augmented Generation, which lets an AI system pull relevant information from outside sources before it responds. The programme also introduces frameworks used to build and coordinate AI workflows, including Model Context Protocol (MCP), LangGraph, CrewAI and AutoGen.
Live sessions, projects and a capstone
Teaching combines live faculty-led sessions with asynchronous learning resources, and an optional campus immersion is also available. Practical work runs through the six months: participants start by building individual AI assistants and knowledge-retrieval applications, then move to workflows involving several agents.
The programme ends with an end-to-end capstone project in which participants apply what they have learned to an agentic AI application, building in AI TRiSM principles along the way. They will also evaluate the performance, security and operational reliability of the systems they build.
Assessment is spread across the programme rather than resting on a single exam. It includes mid-term and end-term multiple-choice examinations, assignments, quizzes and the capstone project. CEP, IIT Delhi will issue e-certificates to participants who meet the attendance and assessment requirements.
Who the programme is for
The programme is intended for AI and data professionals, technology leaders, software developers, IT practitioners and science and engineering graduates looking for specialised training in agentic AI. Graduates from science, engineering and commerce disciplines are eligible to apply, while at least one year of professional experience is recommended.
Selection involves a review of applications followed by a faculty interview, so meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not by itself guarantee a seat. Check the current batch details on the official CEP IIT Delhi portal, which carries the programme listing and admission notices.
The timing reflects where workplace AI is heading. Organisations are already exploring AI agents for customer service, information retrieval and business process automation, and the people who can build and govern those systems are in short supply.
