If your family earns less than ₹12 lakh a year, the fee tag on an IIM Indore MBA does not have to end the conversation. The institute runs a need-based financial assistance scheme for students on its management programmes, and Careers360 set out the details again on October 25, just as CAT 2026 aspirants weigh where to apply.

Who qualifies for need-based aid

The Need-Based Financial Assistance (NBFA) scheme is open to students admitted to three programmes: the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), the Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management (PGPH) and the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). The income condition is straightforward. Annual family income must be below ₹12 lakh.

Two groups of applicants often miss the fine print. Students who applied under the Economically Weaker Section quota but secured admission through the general quota or another quota can still apply for NBFA. Students from the SC, ST, OBC and persons with disabilities categories can also apply, provided they meet the same income condition.

Applications are made after admission, in the prescribed form available from the PGP or IPM office. That timing is worth noting. Aid is not something you sort out before the entrance test; it comes into play once a seat is secured. Students comparing B-schools on cost as well as reputation can read our guide on how to choose a university in India alongside the fee and aid details of each institute.

Merit scholarships on offer

Need is only one side of the picture. IIM Indore also offers merit-based and merit-cum-need-based scholarships, and some of them carry names that MBA aspirants will recognise.

The Aditya Birla Group Scholarship goes to one or two academically outstanding first-year students, selected through personal interviews. The OPJEMS scholarship, offered by the OP Jindal Group, is another merit-linked option for PGP and IPM students. The IDFC FIRST Bank MBA Scholarship is need-based and supports students on a two-year, full-time MBA programme.

These awards sit apart from NBFA, so check each scholarship’s own selection process after admission rather than assuming one application covers everything.

Government schemes students can also use

Beyond the institute’s own awards, IIM Indore helps students apply for scholarships from central and state governments. That includes central sector schemes for SC and ST students, applied for through the National Scholarship Portal, and schemes run by the Madhya Pradesh government for students at school, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

For students still mapping out how to fund a degree, our guide to scholarships for Indian university students explains the main government and private options in one place.

Why this matters before CAT 2026

CAT 2026 is scheduled for November 29, 2026, with IIM Indore as the conducting institute for this cycle. The exam is the gateway to the MBA programmes at the IIMs, and IIM Indore’s own admission process follows from it.

For aspirants, the sequence is simple. First comes the test, then the institute’s selection process, and only after admission does the financial assistance application open. Knowing the ₹12 lakh income line now lets families plan early instead of discovering the support after a seat offer arrives. Details are published on the official IIM Indore website, and CAT information is on the official CAT website.
