November 15 is the date to circle for anyone planning a research career at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi. IIIT-Delhi has opened PhD admissions for its Winter 2026 session, and the application window runs from October 8 to November 15, 2026.
Six disciplines are accepting students this round: Computational Biology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Human-Centered Design, Mathematics, and Social Sciences and Humanities. The presence of Human-Centered Design and SSH on the list means this round is not limited to engineering and science applicants.
Rs 60,000 a month, plus the extras
The money side is straightforward. Full-time scholars get an institute fellowship of Rs 60,000 per month, including HRA. On top of that, the institute provides help with buying a laptop or desktop for research work.
Two grants go beyond the usual stipend. Scholars can get Rs 1.5 lakh to spend up to two weeks at an international laboratory, which is the kind of exposure most PhD students in India have to fight for separately. There is also a Professional Development Allowance of Rs 2.5 lakh that can be used for conferences and workshops.
Prof. Sumit Darak, Dean of Academic Affairs at IIIT-Delhi, said the institute’s graduates today hold faculty positions at reputed institutions and research roles in industry in India and abroad, and invited passionate candidates to apply.
Who should apply
The institute says candidates qualified for UGC or CSIR JRF, DST INSPIRE, and DBT fellowships are strongly encouraged to apply. Fresh B.Tech graduates with research aptitude are also welcome, which keeps the door open for people applying straight out of undergraduate programmes.
Applications go in online through the official IIIT-Delhi PhD admission portal. As with any PhD round, it helps to line up your documents early; the admission documents checklist covers what most Indian universities ask for. If you are comparing funding across institutes, the scholarships guide explains how fellowship amounts differ by source.
IIIT-Delhi was set up as a state university in Delhi with a mandate for research-driven teaching in information technology and related fields. Its winter session admissions give researchers a second entry point in the year, alongside the usual summer intake. With the November 15 deadline now public, the clock on this round has started.
