November 4 is the date Chennai’s Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science has set for the start of HITSEEE 2027 applications. The window stays open for nearly six months, but the exam itself is a single stretch in late April, so the calendar rewards applicants who sort out documents early rather than in the last week.

HITSEEE is the university’s own entrance test for admission to its BTech, BArch and BDes programmes. HITS is a deemed university in Chennai, founded in 1985 and granted university status in 2008. The test is the route in for students who want one of its undergraduate engineering, architecture or design seats for the 2027-28 academic year.

Candidates pay the application fee online, review the form, and should keep a copy of the confirmation page once it is submitted.

Who is eligible

The marks bar differs by programme. BTech applicants need an average of at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12. For BTech Biotechnology, the same 60% average applies, with Biology accepted in place of Mathematics as the third subject.

BArch has a lower marks bar but an extra test requirement. Applicants need to have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 50% in aggregate, and they must hold a valid NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 score.

BDes is the most open of the three. Applicants need an average of at least 60% in Class 12, and students from Science, Commerce, Arts or any other stream can apply.

Two more conditions apply across programmes. Applicants must have turned 16 years and six months by July 31 of the year they sat their Class 12 board exams. The main application form is for Indian nationals residing in India, while foreign and NRI applicants apply through a separate form.

What happens after the exam

Counselling runs from May 12 to May 19, 2027, soon after the exam window closes. That is when ranks turn into actual seats, so applicants should keep their documents ready well before May rather than hunting for certificates after a seat is offered. Our admission documents checklist covers the papers colleges usually ask for at reporting, and our guide to choosing a university in India is worth a read before locking in preferences, since a programme choice made in November shapes the next four years.

Classes for the new batch are scheduled to begin in July 2027. Anyone weighing HITS against other options should compare the full cost and the programme structure alongside the entrance date, before the April 21 deadline arrives.
