Postgraduate students across India have eight days left to enter a national finance case competition run by IIM Bangalore and GIFT City. The GIFT Finance Olympiad, the National Student Case Challenge 2026, closes entries for its online first stage on October 31, 2026.
Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) is running the competition with IIM Bangalore’s Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM). It comes ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027, and it asks students to solve problems that sit inside India’s international financial services centre.
Two tracks to choose from
Teams pick one of two tracks. The Markets and Product Design track looks at a proposed launch of single-stock futures linked to large Indian companies for global investors through GIFT IFSC. These are contracts whose value follows the share price of one company, and they let investors take positions on that stock’s future price without buying the shares directly.
The Institutional Strategy and Governance track looks at how exchanges and clearing corporations in GIFT IFSC should assess and structure partnerships with global exchanges, custodians and other market infrastructure institutions. Both cases expect students to handle commercial, regulatory and operational questions in the same answer.
Who can enter
Any postgraduate student at a recognised college, university or business school in India can enter, whatever their discipline. Teams need four members, and the organisers encourage interdisciplinary teams, so a finance student might sit with an engineer, a lawyer or a designer.
Three stages, ending in a grand finale
Stage one is the online case challenge. Shortlisted teams move to in-person regional finals in Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai through November and early December. Each city final is a live case round with a presentation and jury questions, and the winning team from each city goes to the Grand Finale, where finalists work on an extended case and present their recommendations.
What the jury scores
Entries are judged on analytical quality, strategic depth, feasibility, understanding of market trade-offs and presentation. Students may use AI tools for research and drafting, but they must disclose the use. The organisers say the aim is practical ideas that can strengthen GIFT IFSC’s long-term competitiveness as an international financial centre.
