Tomorrow, October 12, 2026, is the last day to submit the GATE 2027 application form. IIT Madras, the organising institute for this year’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, has made it clear that the late-fee window closing tomorrow is the final chance to register. No further extensions will be given.

The regular registration window closed on October 5. Since then, only the extended window has been open, with a late fee added to the regular amount.

The dates that matter

  • Registration with late fee closes: October 12, 2026
  • Application correction window: October 14 to October 21, 2026
  • Exam city intimation slip: January 4, 2027
  • Exam dates: February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027
  • Result declaration: March 19, 2027

Applications are submitted through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) on the official GATE 2027 portal.

What it costs now

The late fee is Rs 500 per paper over the regular fee. That takes the total to Rs 1,500 per paper for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates, and Rs 2,500 per paper for all other candidates. Candidates who opt for two papers pay the per-paper amount for each.

How to apply on GOAPS

Indian nationals must register through DigiLocker, which pulls verified personal details into the form. The application also captures a live photograph, and candidates choose up to two test papers and their preferred exam cities. Upload a recent photograph and signature, check every detail against your documents, then pay by UPI, card or netbanking. Keep your DigiLocker account active after payment, because the organising institute uses it for later updates.

Our admission documents checklist lists the scans you should keep ready before you sit down to fill the form. Do not leave this for tomorrow night. Exam portals slow down on deadline evenings, and a failed payment at 11:55 PM leaves no time to recover.

Correction window, then the exam

If a mistake slips through, the correction window from October 14 to October 21 gives you a week to fix errors in the submitted form. The next step after that is the exam city intimation slip on January 4, 2027, which tells you where you will write the exam.

GATE 2027 will be held on six days across three weekends in February: the 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st. The result is expected on March 19, 2027.

Why this deadline matters

A GATE score is the main route into MTech and PhD programmes at the IITs and NITs, and several public sector companies also use it for recruitment. IIT Madras is running the exam this cycle, but the score works across institutes. Miss tomorrow and the next chance is GATE 2028.
