Candidates whose GATE 2027 application was flagged defective during scrutiny now have until November 30, 2026, to correct it. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, which is running GATE 2027, has moved the deadline from November 3. It is the third time the date has shifted since the window opened on October 14, after earlier moves from October 21 to October 31 and then to November 3.

The extension changes nothing about who the window is for. It covers only applicants whose forms were marked defective during scrutiny. It does not reopen registration, and it does not let anyone change details that scrutiny did not flag. Fixing a flagged defect costs nothing, and IIT Madras has said no additional fee will be charged for these corrections.

What you can fix

The window covers the defects scrutiny teams raised. A photograph or signature that was rejected or came out blurred can be re-uploaded. An identity number that does not match the uploaded document can be corrected. Images uploaded in the wrong place can be swapped back. Candidates who received a defect notification by email should check exactly what was flagged before uploading anything, since the window accepts only the correction scrutiny asked for.

Corrections go through GOAPS, the GATE application portal. Log in, open the defect link on the dashboard, read the remark carefully, and upload the corrected file to the specification given. After submitting, check that the status changes to “Under Scrutiny: Defect Rectification Done”. That status confirms the upload went in and re-verification is under way. A form that still shows a defect message after November 30 has missed the window.

What this window does not cover

Candidates who want to change something scrutiny did not flag should wait. Paper choice, exam city, gender and category changes belong to a separate data correction window, which carries a fee and whose dates have not been announced yet. The official portal currently lists that window as to be announced. Trying to make those edits now will not work, because this window only handles flagged defects.

The dates that still stand

Exam city allotment is scheduled for January 4, 2027. Scrutiny has to finish before city allotment, which is one reason the November 30 date matters even though it looks far away. Candidates who were flagged and have not acted yet should check their GOAPS status and any defect email from their zone, upload the corrected file before the deadline, and confirm the status change on the dashboard. Keep the admission documents checklist handy while re-uploading, so the replacement photograph or document does not fail scrutiny a second time. For the official dates and portal, use the official GATE 2027 portal.
