To spend a semester on exchange under Erasmus+, a Delhi University student now needs a published minimum CGPA of 7.5. The University of Delhi has issued detailed rules for selecting students, PhD scholars, faculty members and staff for mobility under its Erasmus agreements.
The notification appeared on DU’s official website on October 22, 2026, in the Spotlight section of du.ac.in. It puts eligibility rules and selection weightage for all four categories in one published document.
Who can apply
The rules apply to students (other than PhD scholars), PhD scholars, faculty members and staff. Every applicant must meet the required language proficiency, hold a valid passport with at least two years of remaining validity, and must not have participated in similar mobility programmes or visits during the preceding five years.
For students, the academic bar is a minimum CGPA of 7.5 for UR, OBC and EWS candidates, and 6.5 for SC and ST candidates.
Applications will be invited and screened either by the concerned department or by the International Relations office, depending on the specific agreement. Department-coordinated applications go through a departmental selection committee, while university-coordinated applications must be complete, forwarded by the Head of the Institution, and submitted before the deadline.
How students are selected
Academic performance carries the heaviest weight: 50 per cent of the total. The interview takes 30 per cent, and the remaining 20 per cent is spread across the statement of purpose, faculty recommendation, research and contribution to the department, and attendance, at 5 per cent each.
The interview will assess subject knowledge, communication skills, personality and attitude, clarity of thought, and the candidate’s reasons for joining the exchange. Departmental contributions that count include participation in student societies and editorial committees, social outreach, help in organising university events, research performance, and administrative work such as accreditation, internships and placements.
Tougher bar for PhD scholars
PhD candidates must have completed their coursework and hold the required language proficiency. They need a recommendation letter from their academic supervisor at DU and an acceptance letter from a prospective supervisor at the host university whose research expertise matches their proposed work.
Their selection gives 40 per cent weightage to the research proposal, 30 per cent to the interview, 20 per cent to the alignment between the host supervisor’s expertise and the candidate’s research area, and 10 per cent to UGC/CSIR NET/JRF. Preference will be given to candidates with research papers published in Scopus-indexed journals.
Faculty, staff and the final word
The rules also cover faculty members and staff. Staff exchange programmes may be taken up in special circumstances, and the competent authority can nominate officers for them when relevant competencies need to be acquired.
A selection committee chaired by the Registrar, with the Finance Officer, the Joint Registrars for Establishment (Teaching and Non-Teaching), the Joint Registrar (HR), and a nominee of the Chairperson of International Relations, will handle the process. The Vice-Chancellor has the authority to take final decisions on any difficulties that arise in implementation or interpretation.
Students eyeing a European semester should start with the basics: a passport with at least two years of validity is mandatory, and renewing one takes weeks. Our admission documents checklist covers the scans and formats that portals tend to reject on deadline nights.
