Law aspirants who missed the October 31 cutoff have one more week. The Consortium of National Law Universities has extended CLAT 2027 registration to November 7, 2026, up to 11:59 pm, for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The extension came through an official notification issued on October 31, the same day the original deadline was set to expire. The exam date has not moved. CLAT 2027 is still scheduled for December 6, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm, in offline mode across the country.
CLAT is the entrance test for law programmes at the 26 participating National Law Universities. The undergraduate test feeds the five-year integrated law degree, and the postgraduate test feeds the one-year LLM. National Law School of India University in Bengaluru and National Law University Delhi are among the participating institutes.
What changed in the schedule
The only change is the application deadline. Registration was earlier set to close on October 31. Candidates can now submit their forms until 11:59 pm on November 7 through the official CLAT 2027 portal. Applications left incomplete after that time will not be considered, so the fee payment has to go through before the window shuts.
The rest of the process stays the same. The Consortium will notify the correction window separately, and admit cards are expected closer to the exam date.
Fees and how to apply
The application fee is Rs 4,000 for General and OBC candidates and Rs 3,500 for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates. Previous years’ question papers can be bought for an extra Rs 500. The fee is paid online and is non-refundable.
To apply, candidates register on the Consortium portal with a mobile number and email address, verify the account with the OTP sent to the mobile, fill in personal and academic details, pick test centre preferences, upload the required documents and pay the fee. Keep a copy of the submitted form for reference.
Before starting the form, it helps to have scanned copies of the photograph, signature and category certificate ready. Our admission documents checklist covers the paperwork entrance forms usually ask for.
What the exam looks like
The undergraduate paper has 120 comprehension-based multiple-choice questions across five sections: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Each correct answer carries one mark and each wrong answer loses 0.25 marks.
The postgraduate paper tests candidates on legal subjects through questions based on law-related concepts and materials. Both papers run for two hours on the same day.
